Job Search....

With the recent woes in the job market search, I have noticed a few things: It is definitely an employers market, it's extremely hard to get yourself noticed and employers seem to be forgetting that their tactics may lose them current and or future clients. I understand that if a job is posted on many of the outlets available, that they are inundated with hundreds, if not thousands of applicants, so it does make it hard to reply to all of them, even just a simple "thanks for applying, you will be contacted if you match our opening" is quickly passed up. As an applicant, how do you make your resume stand out, short of renting an airplane that screams "look up here, I'm the one you want to hire!", especially in a day of faxing or e-mailing your resume in, never actually coming into contact with a "real live person". You can try clever titles in the subject line of your e-mail, but who's to say the person reading it will have the same sense of humor as you? It is definitely a frustrating time right now, which leads me to my third "rant" if you will: Employers that forget they are not only dealing with a potential employee, but one that may also be a current or future client. Try to remember, clients/ customers are the reason you are in business, that by insulting them during the hiring process does not bode well with them, and they definitely do remember the experience, and thus may decide that they don't want to continue spending their hard earned cash with you. My advice: treat everyone the way you would expect or like to be treated, old fashioned, I know, but hey, I also like to have conversations face to face rather than texting, which seemed to be working quite well, the last time I checked....
